Do Follow No follow Pagerank Sculpting

I was reading a few articles lately regarding Do Follow and No Follow Attributes found on the majority of blog or website links today. See what happens is a blogger would apply a “rel=nofollow” tag to out going links. This would allow them to keep their page rank and not share it with that specific website they are linking to. “rel=nofollow attribute” provides a way for webmasters to tell search engines “Don’t follow links on this page” or “Don’t follow this specific link.”

Nofollow is method (introduced in 2005 and supported by multiple search engines) to annotate a link to tell search engines “I can’t or don’t want to vouch for this link.” In Google, nofollow links don’t pass PageRank and don’t pass anchortext. (matt cutts)

What was this a problem?

Some bloggers/website owners started abusing the No Follow rule by applying it to all links on a high page rank page and allowing all the juice to flow to one specific link only. This is known as Pagerank Sculpting. Determining how page rank will flow throughout your website. Normally all the links would get an equal flow of page rank juice but with the no follow attribute they could allow all the juice to flow into one specific link.

Why did it change?

Many people were trying to set how page rank flows on their website or blog. This isn’t the way Google wants it to happen. Some sites were even stopping the flow of page rank when the information was of high quality.

So what happens now?

Google has changed the algorithm to allow the same amount of page rank juice to flow to all external links. This is going to happen if you have no matter how many no follow links you have or page rank juice available. The links don’t add up to create one huge piping hot stream of page rank love. We can assume the extra if not a do follow is wasted and gone. Apparently it’s now called the decay factor.

The majority of bloggers must use this No Follow for paid links or paid adverting. Some call these article sponsored Articles and Google penalizes the company if they don’t use the No Follow attribute.

To warp it all up

Yes Do Follow and No Follow attributes still work and still play a roll is SEO. Most Search Engines Including Google will listen to these attributes and not follow any links you suggest it to not follow. Should you continue to practice Page Rank Sculpting? Google say no and to allow the page rank to flow naturally throughout your website or blog.

If you’re interested in Page Rank Sculpting and want to read more Google created an actual page to help you better understand what’s happening.

Any comments on this topic? Have you ever tried Page Rank Sculpting and if so have you noticed these changes?

Thanks,

Brian

My first blog in advance article!

I really think this blog in advance thing is going to workout for me! I can now set aside the proper amount of time to blog in advance and when I have time I can still blog in between my normally scheduled releases.

I’m thinking the hardest part now will be the ideas and topics. Where will I get all my blogging ideas from? Thank god for me this has never been an issue. I’m very original, unique and full of creative and innovative ideals. I’m a marketing genius if you will. So over the next week at minimum you can expect 1 post per day. So if you’re bored at work don’t forget to stop by and visit!

Like normal the majority of my discussions will be related to SEO, Marketing, Promotion and Advertising. This seems to be a pretty good niche for me. I work in Marketing and Sales so I’m thinking anything I write will be influenced by my work or the life I live.

I’m also open to suggestions. So if you’re reading now and would like to see something in specific don’t hesitate to contact me or leave a reply with your ideals. What I can do is research the idea and post to the best of my ability regarding that topic.

I hope to see a positive response from my readers over the next week regarding interaction and commenting. We are a do follow blog so the top commenter’s plug-in and the comment links will be passing the juice.  I don’t allow or promote the idea of comment spam so if you do subscribe to our conversations don’t worry you won’t get any spam.

I’m really excited and look forward to engaging with all readers. Please if you’re going to be active on my blog I ask a favor of you. I would appreciate if you took the time and voted for my articles. I’m active at about three of four social communities and would like to see my visitors and readers voting for me.

Social community accounts are free so it’s at no cost to you. I normally submit the article myself but need you to vote! So if you have time, enjoy my article please take a moment and vote! As you can clearly see I have the blogengage wordpress plug-in on every article so please vote.

We this is the official kick off of my daily blogging campaign. I hope to see you commenting and actively visiting my blog.

Thanks,

Brian

Blogging in advance, what are your thoughts?

Blogging has always been on the side burner for me. It’s not necessarily something I love to do but enjoy once in a while as a pass time. See I don’t have the time to blog everyday. I have many things going on that take up the majority of my time. I have a full time career and approximately 8 other websites I manage and maintain.

Yesterday I ran into a pretty new blog written by Deneil Merritt. I was reading his content and noticed he was doing some really cool things with his blog that I wanted to share with my readers. Time is my biggest issue and from reading his blog I learned to have an article released every day I don’t necessarily have to blog everyday. Deneil writes his article in advanced and releases them as he wants using a time stamp options.

Using this option here at seomkt will allow me to blog on the weekends writing 5 articles and releasing them individually Monday to Friday providing my readers with new an fresh content. This is really exciting for me because I have never had a consistent blog and if things work out perhaps I will for the first time.

Some thing else I noticed from Deneil is he always replies to his comments so I’m going to make note of this and do my best to engage with my readers. Right now I reply to 50% of the comments left on my blog and soon it will be 100%.

What‘s your thought on this plug-in?

Do you find reading articles that have been written from the weekend take away from originality?

Or

Do you think it’s better than having nothing to read?

Let me know your thoughts on this idea.

Cheers,

Brian

Digg Like Sites for Bloggers a Dying Breed

Just an FYI I’m the owner and founder of a popular social networking website for bloggers called blogengage. We have been building our community now for 2 years and from the start we had competitive pressure from many similar niche blogging sites. They offered the same service, same software and functionality and normally claimed to be far Superior than mine.

You’re probably asking yourself where I’m going with this and with patience you will soon find out. See I never once claimed our community was better, faster, and more popular or anything. I simply kept marketing and promoting the sites in order to grow the community.

I really didn’t care about my competitors I just wanted to help my blogging friends have a decent community to promote their blogs and interact with other bloggers. It’s ironic the way things work out sometimes. The competitive niche blogging websites are dead. Seriously they are filled with spam and the stories on the front page are older then 1 year. I’m not going to directly link to these sites as I’m thinking it would be a bad idea for my marketing blog to link and pass page rank juice to poor quality websites as such.

None the less I will still tell you the names. When I first started Blog Engage the following websites were my biggest competition in the niche blogging market. If you look at their websites now this is what you will find.

Blogging Zoom – A dead and non happening place where the newest article on the front page in more than  a year old. Most definitely not a community ready to help promote your article. At one point this site was a Page Rank of 4 But I called it a fake in bloggeries blog forums and it appears I may have been right. It’s currently siting at a page rank of nothing.

bloggingzoom

Post On Fire - Far better than any community I will mention today (besides blog engage). This guy at one point was pretty dedicated. It seems he recently left pligg as I did and went with another platform to run his website from. Unlike Post on fire I stayed with the Social Web CMS Team allowing me to keep the cool functionality of pligg software without all the bugs. I think he went with drupal a leading social networking and blogging script.

postonfire

BlogsVine – I don’t even know the owner of this website. I don’t see him or her actively marketing and promoting the website and that’s probably why it’s dead the way it is. At one point this site had a pretty original and unique design but you can clearly see they are now using the same template as my site but a different color. It’s too bad what happened this was a decent website at one point.

blogsvine

well it feels pretty good to know of all the competitive websites that started up blog engage is moving forward with strong momentum. So if your reading this and use to be a members at any of these websites I invite you to join our social networking website for bloggers.

So I deleted my Blog Catalog Blog Submissions

Look… I love Blog Catalog but to be frank it’s out ranking me in the major search engines with my articles with my keywords. For the past 6 months I’ve been sucking it up and enjoying the referrals but that’s enough for me. I went and removed all my blogs and their rss feeds from the blog catalog community.

Have a look at this search Image. Click here for search,

search_google_blogcatalog

This is the cached page screenshot of blog catalog…

Some would say he what the heck it’s a back links anyways and a strong one too. Perhaps you’re correct and maybe my rankings will totally drop without that back link but it’s a rick I’m willing to take. This is from one search result. I was replying to a comment and when I clicked the search term I see this disgusting result.

I’m  keeping my groups and profile but that’s it.
