Contest Update Keller Hawthorne’s best blog design contest 2009

We have a big update and it’s good news everyone we have placed in the qualifying top 5 and have been awarded one free 70 usd value theme from a designer that sponsored Keller Hawthorne’s contest. To be frank I’m not sure what I can do with it but perhaps if I get Brian’s permissions (the designer) I can donate it towards the Blog Engage 2009 Community Contest. I think ti turned out to be a great contest and the winner is actually a member of our blogengage community.

There was a total of five finalists and I was #5. I’m pretty happy about that and wanted to thanks all my readers who took the time and voted for me.

Yeah it was a close one. I don’t think the contest actually worked. The person who won and the runner ups didn’t really have nice blogs.

The contest should had been 2009 most popular blogs and that would had suited the contest better.

  4. Good work Brian glad you won something. Yes I like Will he’s seems like a nice guy but I been to his site a couple times and I don’t get it or what he trying to do. Might be a UK thing we in the States just don’t get it.

I should have hacked the contest I could really use a better theme just didn’t feel right about cheating.

I’m glad you didn’t cheat. I imagine you were only joking when you said that. Personally I don’t know what I’m going to do with another blog theme I’m definitely not starting another blog.

  5. Hi Brian,

It’s a great site you’ve got here – and really was my first choice for the contest. Head and shoulders above everything else in my opinion. My own site, as I wrote to Keller, only won because I networked more than anyone else and got people to vote for me. Which , in a way , is a travesty of justice. I mean the site certainly isn’t the “Best WordPress Design 2009″.

So – why did I enter the contest only a few weeks after starting to build my site? Well, I came across Keller – and thought she gave out great information & good ideas – especially for someone like me who is completely new to blogging and still learning the ropes. I’m also sure she’s a very nice, genuine person & that she’s going to be very succcessful with her site. Basically then, I imagined the contest would be a good kick-start to an initial awareness campaign for “What A Website” & good free publicity for the future should it be one of the 5 finalists. So I went looking for votes.

The downside of all this – again as I told Keller – is that it would have been better (for me ) if she had started her contest in November … as by then I might ( might !) have developed a site/concept worthy of such a grand sounding title … Really. I’m far from surprised that Jared doesn’t really get the concept yet. I haven’t really had much time yet to present it properly ( work in the real world etc etc) – but I hope ( and maybe expect) that things will change quite a lot over the coming months.

One of the positive changes that would be great to see, by the way, is for this site ( & Blog Engage) to be included!

    Cheers

    Will
P.S- I also wrote to Keller in the “follow up” that a contest title such as “Best WordPress Blogger 2009″ would have been better/more appropriate. Asking friends/contacts for votes hasn’t really got that much to do with a design contest (which you won)

Either way we look at it you have won the competition fair and square and that’s all that matters. You work hard on your blog and have gained the voted from networking and no one has the right to take that away.

Perhaps now you can pick a nice theme and truly will her blog contest of 2010 if she runs one.

Congrats on the victory Will and thanks for stopping by my blog.

Congrats Brian for bagging 5th place amongst very good design blogs. Looking forward to your new site.
