Treat your blog and your visitors like they were in the “real” world. Do you ignore people when they talk to you? (If you do I think you may need to re-evaluate your life!) so why treat people who comment on your blog any other way?

Develop a reputation for only putting out great valuable content AND as important, only add quality useful comments.
