When managing a business there’s nothing more important than maintaining your employee morale and to achieve this you must motivate and encourage your employees to work harder and to set personal goals!
First thing to understand is these are real people and can’t operate as a robot on the factory line. Let’s say it takes a bit more than bolts and screws to hold them together.
Understanding why a happy employee is important to a company should be your number one task today. If you feel up to it take a pen and paper and start writing down the pro’s and con’s to ensuring your employee is in fact happy. I will also write a list and let’s see what we can come up with.
Pro’s to a happy employee
Increase in productivity
Respect for the manager and company
Reliability to the company and their personal shifts
Long term employment
Reduction in sick time
Superb customer service
A non happy employee equal’s
Decrees in productivity
Lack of respect for the company and managers
Unreliable employee that misses shifts and calls in sick weekly
Short term employment and increased training costs
Poor quality of customer service
So overall from this list you can easily tell a happy employee create an environment for success in any company. Treating your employees like their friends while maintaining a management attitude will get your company far in life and also make you feel better as a manager at the end of the day.
How can we make our employees happier and work harder?
Develop or create a Friday weekly meeting providing donuts and company information. Allow the employee to feel as they have achieved something simply by working hard towards set goals. Avoid letting the employee down with bad news. When you have to let the employee know do it in private!
Allow the employee to enjoy personal breaks throughout the day. Two 15 minute breaks one in the am and pm should be good enough. This is also including the 1 hour’s lunch in which is also given.
Take what you will from this article but if you want your company to do the best it possibly can I suggested taking the advice and implementing it in your company if you haven’t already!
Treat your employee with respect and as an equal and you will get far more out of them then you could ever imagine!
