Sometimes I find myself caught up in the moment. As days turn into weeks and weeks turn into months my personal blogging skills continue to grow.

Sometimes I forget to look back and see where I came from. I get so caught up in the moment I tend to disregard where I once started. Going back to your blogging basics is always good thing.

For example if your six months into blogging you have most likely filled your sidebars with junk and your website is full of unneeded or unwanted self promotional social networking tools. Tools such as blog catalog images, mybloglog widgets and much more.

This is why I wanted to name this article blogging back to basics. What I want us to do is take a note pad and look at where your blog is at now. Make a nice chart of everything that’s currently on your blog. Try not to forget anything this is really important.

When you’re done making the list I want you to go into your word press admin panel and start removing everything. If you strongly feel you need something go ahead and keep it but as for everything else I want you to completely remove it form your blog website.

Benefits of Blogging back to basics

• Increase readability

• Increase blog load times

• Increase return visitors

But wait you must be asking yourself… why is he telling me this when he has text ads, sidebar ads and a blogengage image in his sidebar. He has tweetmeme and twitter counter in his footer. Why should I listen to him.

The first thing we have to understand is I only use the tools that truly benefit me as a blogger. My blog log and blog catalog widgets do nothing for your blog so please simply delete them as they only increase your website load time.

I also own my own dedicated server so I have the power needed to pull images and load fast pages.

You want widgets that are fast loading and give the visitor the opportunity to market you and your blog. If a friend visits my blog and uses twitter remote they could potentially send a tweet out to all their followers lining then back here to this exact article. The widget has a benefit so just keep that in mind hen you’re deciding what you are going to be keeping.

It’s obvious the most important aspect of blogging is marketing and promotion. Sometimes these activities have to play  aback seat when it comes to guest blogging.

It seems many bloggers have forgotten guest blogging isn’t about marketing and promoting it’s about reaching a new audience. It’s about gaining new readers and followers. This is your opportunity to prove you have a unique style of blogging and you are worth following.

If you want to be the best guest blogger then you have to forget about your personal gain and write the best article you have ever written in your life. What you have to remember is guest blogging isn’t about you, it’s about your opportunity to attract more readers.

• Demonstrate your writing ability

I know this article is short and sweet but it’s so true. Guest blogging is an amazing opportunity to increase your readership and blog traffic. Prepare your article well in advanced and review it more then thee of four times. Ensure it’s in perfect condition and then submit it.

So I officially started my own blogging e-book. The project will cover everything a new blogger would have to know. I start off by introducing the many available blogging platforms and from there I go into hosting, domain and themes.

I discuss the different types of hosting packages and domain registers. I also get involved and talk about the proper set up of a word press configuration and then I lead right into SEO, Marketing and Promotion.

I haven’t gotten this far in the book yet but after SEO, Marketing and Promotion I will be leading into building online relationships. I know this is more marketing but I really believe it’s an untapped resource for so many bloggers and really needs to be mentioned.

From here on I will be discussing opportunities (ways) in which you can generate earnings online from blogging. The Make Money Online section will be very featured with many companies that offer great deals for niche markets and or general target markets. I will discuss how I generate my earnings from blogging and share all the tips I have with you.

After we discuss Make Money Online I was hoping to end it all of with a section that is dedciated to the bloggers. How to prepare mentally. I would like to discuss the ups and downs of being a blogger, the commitment and dedication it takes to become successful and the hard work involved with the entire process.

I don’t have this in any specific order as of yet but it’s still a work in progress. I just wanted to let you know I am in fact working on a book and it will be released with a few weeks.

I know I speak the truth in this article when it comes to blogging. The sad reality is many bloggers don’t care about your blog.

They skim your content and try to post the most constructive and accurate comment they can without reading the entire article.

Please understand I have also been known to “skim” through an article but I sometimes feel obligated to comment on all the blogs submitted to our social community.

I have come to realize it’s better to say nothing at all then to skim through an article.

This is the main reason I started my blogging community.

I wanted to create a community of bloggers that cared for one anther. I wanted to avoid your typical blog catalog link farm and wanted to energize the blogosphere with real people and real bloggers.

If you are dedicated enough to stay in the blogosphere and start analyzing the types of bloggers you want to meet you might have a chance at building some great relationships. This process can be really hard and at sometimes extremely frustrating.

Bloggers work hard to come up with unique content and interesting subjects to blog about. This is why it’s important for us the visitors to read their content and provide a nice comment that help build discussions within the post.

Make a difference next time you visit your favorite blog or blog community. Take the time to read the article, post a comment and socially share with your online friends. Don’t be that hypocrite loser blogger.

Many people think blogging is easy. They have this idea that they will simply write whatever they feel and perhaps earn money at the same time. Well the truth of the matter is blogging takes time, dedication and commitment.

You have to build up trust and an audience. So much marketing and promotion goes into gaining readers. The time and dedication that goes into your writings is also important. People want to know you are a credible source of information.

Starting your own blog also comes with a large learning curve of html editing and server management. You have to understand this is a new realm you’re entering and at times it can become over whelming and difficult.

Always coming up with unique or original ideas to write about is hard. This is one of the main reasons I started the blog engage weekly word challenge. I wanted to challenge bloggers to write on topics they aren’t use to. I wanted them to have to think out side the box and open their imaginations.

Personal Suggestions

1. Use wordpress. It’s an amazing platform for blogging. If you want to test the waters and see if you like blogging take a look at one of my newest projects name blogging wire. It’s a social community of bloggers you will fit right in.

2. Get a nice theme. I’m a huge fan of Nick from Elegant Themes. He has an amazing collection or really nice word press themes at a very low cost. You have to look the part you want to play. It’s like putting on a suit for important business meetings. Nick also has an amazing forum for support and customization.

3. Join many blogging networks and start marketing your blog. The more traffic you get the more chances you have of gaining new readers. I created blog engage and it’s an amazing environment to market your blog and meet new bloggers. Be sure to stop in and say hello.

4. Build Relationships. I swear by this method. Don’t get upset if it takes time or you get rejected at first. The majority of bloggers are really nice and open for communication. The blogosphere is a great place to be and as your blog grows so will your relationships. Don’t burn bridges and keep moving forward.

I haven’t taken a backup of my blog here for months. Almost 8 months to be exact. I lost all my articles and came to accept that fact. I even lost interest in writing new content on this blog. It’s amazing how demotivating losing written content can be.

After a few days I started getting the rest of my websites back up seeing I had updated backups for all of them. So here I am I have all my websites up but I’m still sad about all the lost content from my SEO and Marketing Blog.

I lost many comments, my readers lost many back links etc… the story keeps getting worse and worse. Now after losing the articles on my blog I all of a sudden had this social obligation to remove any of the article links I submitted to my favorite social networking websites. Now because I’m the owner bog engage I started there first.

Little did I know I was about to get the best news possible. Every single article I had lost was cached by Google’s Spider Bots. I simply copped the content, re published it and fixed the publish date to match my submission date. I still haven’t completed it all and I haven’t even started on the comments. I’m still working on completing them all I think I have about 10 more articles to do but it’s amazing how

I forgot about this amazing resource to find lost data. So if this is a tip or a lesson learned take note. When you lose data and you have no backup don’t’ fear as Google back up is here!

I’m not sure if anyone noticed but I’m missing about 2 months of articles here on my blog. Over the weekend I spent most of my time trying to recover data from a USB Enclosure without success for my personal blog here at seomkt.

Overall I’m not too disappointed seeing I haven’t been blogging much anyways so I maybe lost 20 articles at the most. None the less a loss is a loss so I will try to write a few times over this month to get some more new content for everyone to read.

So what have I learned over the last 48 hours?

1. No matter how sure you are create weekly backups
2. Stop being lazy and saying I’ll do it later.
3. Don’t get out of the habit and stop making backup.
4. Back up your data to your PC instead of the server.

Creating weekly backups will help you keep data and content in case of situations like I had arise. Make sure to back up your system as often as possible and download it to your personal PC.

Generating organic, natural, free traffic to your website is easier then you think. My Blogging Tip this week as part of the blog engage weekly word challenge is to help you build a better Search Eugine Optimized Website.

I will teach you how to SEO your website. As we move forward you should also be considering at minimum a small priced but very unique design for your site. I’m a big fan of nick over at Elegant Themes and highly recommend using them to start your blog.

Pick a target market

For best results you should target your traffic into a specific niche market. This niche can be lagre in size but must be consistent in content.

Targeted Keywords

Create all your topics and articles around the same but unique keywords.

Building your back links

This should also be treated with care. Yo must start building back links to your blog. This must be done within the same niche or target market as you. So in general you need content related back links.

Optimize your Blog Roll

You have to start linking to websites that are similar to yours and delete all other linking to unrelated websites. Target all your links specifically and this is to both internal pages and main sites.

Optimize your posts

Like mentioned above this is the optimization of your actual articles. Start generating targeted back links to all your article pages.

Remove all link plugins

Honestly to fulfill your goals you will eventually have to remove comment luv, top commentators etc… or make them No Follow.

After two great years of open and public registration I have finally made the decision to close our doors and make Blog Engage a private invitation only website.

This decision is due to the high volume of poor quality blogs, spam submissions and comments. Overall this is great news for the quality of our content and website.
